Christian’s been in the fashion industry for over 18 years! Yes, 18 years… you’ll definitely love what he has to say

S: Tell me a little about your background. Where are you from, and where did you attend school?

C: I was born and raised in sunny Los Angeles. I attended school at the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising. Aside from freelancing, my designs specialize in high-end and luxury evening wear.

S: What does fashion mean to you?

C: (Chuckles). Hmmm.. Nothing! Just kidding!! It’s such a general question, but for me, Fashion means clothing, craftsmanship, detail, and style.

S: When did you realize you wanted to pursue a career in fashion?

C: Probably when I was about 7 years old. Since I was little, I’d always make and sew heart shaped pillows for my family. I was born into a family that has worked in fashion for a very long time. I grew up around it, and my mother definitely had a great impact on that.

S: How long does it take for you to construct a piece?

C: Normally, from the pattern to the sample, it would take a minimum of 3 days. I’ve made gowns where it took me over a month to complete. It all depends on the complexity and detail of every piece.

S: What colors and fabrics do you love working with?

C: My ultimate favorite color is green, but I love working with earthy tones like brown, blue, black, gray and yellow (just to name a few). Fabrics — I love lace.. especially beaded lace, tweed, wool, and knits. However, my favorite thing to do is to buy different types of fabrics, cut them, and create new fabrics of my own.

S: What are some of your greatest accomplishments?

C: I’ve done custom gowns for celebrities, costumes for a concert tour (which was awesome), costumes for film, and I have also done some pieces for celebrity weddings.

S: Who are your favorite designers that inspire you?

C: Gianni Versace, Tom Ford, Valentino, Edith Head, and Adrian.

S: What other experiences do you have in the fashion industry?

C: I’ve done styling, and costumes. I also worked for Louis Vuitton for visual merchandising, and I was the west coast Regional Merchandiser for Max Mara.

S: What advice do you have to give for aspiring designers?

C: NEVER GIVE UP!! You must always put a lot of effort, and dedication. Of course you have to passionate about what you’re doing as well. Love what you do.

It seems like a simple process, but it takes a lot of time to finding the perfect textiles, colors, and fabric for your designs. We have clients who want to use the same fabric for their entire collection, or multiple types of fabric for their collection. Regardless, we’re here to help guide each designer!

First thing’s first.

Sketches? Check!

The very first step we take here at Jomsy is of course, to get your sketches. Sketches and any other ideas brainstormed are the main foundation to starting your brand.

Take a look at some of the sketches below from our new designer, Sophie, from New York!

Let’s be honest, these aren’t the greatest sketches, (Sorry Sophie, we love you!) but we don’t expect our designers to have full on professional sketches, because that’s where we come in to help! We take these sketches and ideas and expand them. We can also work with the sketch, and turn them into technical sketches.

*Note, it’s ALWAYS good to have ideas that separate yourself from others, because that’s what catches everyone’s attention. We’ll go more into detail about that later.

Once we receive the sketches, we proceed in discussing what types of fabric, trims, prints, etc. the designer wants to use.

That being said, we are proud to pronounce our new footwear designer, Jessica!

Jessica is a Los Angeles based footwear consultant. She trained in the well known Fashion Institute of Technology in New York and Ars Sutoria, in Milan, Italy. She has experience in the design, product development, fitting and production of fashion footwear. Her work has been seen on the runways of New York Fashion Week, as well as on the racks of multinational mass retailers.

On Saturday March 24 in the LA Fashion District,  JOMSY presented and organized a HUGE INTERNATIONAL SHOOTING  to launch two new JOMSY products!  The art of wearing the multipurpose JOMSY bracelet and the Caprice JOMSY bag which will create a big buzz in LA FASHION DISTRICT and in Europe!

With a professional crew of 20 people, 3 different locations,  two new products, it was A VERY UNIQUE shooting with  7 languages spoken including French, Spanish, Persian, Hungarian, South Sudan, Lethonian, 7 models from NEW YORK, WASHINGTON, TEXAS, LOS ANGELES… including the talented Lucy Lomuro , Elisa Duran, Ieva Lasmare, Tracy Turnure Elisa Duran, Lara Laing ,Loree Rapp,
Julianna Burrows and it couldn’t have be done without our  brilliant and talented  photographers Kate Szatmari and Payam Emrani (Model in red dress/ wall)

Thank you to our Director of shooting, DAVID RIVERA and his assistant, awesome hair & make up  and French pedicure by Nadia Mendez, Johanna, Marianne! The whole staff who showed-up ..KENNEDY, assistant to director , Germaine & Martine my 2 friends… a special thank you to EDITA our designer and the Edita Collection for her beautiful dresses, Severine Delarace my assistant…and myself.  A full 9 hour successful shooting in good spirits and professionalism under the California sun.

Une journée magnifique de shooting de 9 heures sous le soleil californien accompagnée de bonne humeur et surtout un grand professionalisme!
