EDC 2017: an insight of a fashion subculture.

EDC 2017 just ended in the Las Vegas heat, and this was the fashion game of the weekend.

EDC, the Electric Daisy Carnival, just ended its Vegas 2017 edition, after 21 years raving in the desert. With temperatures flirting with 120 degrees on Saturday night, over 200’000 festival goers came to see perform around 100 artists from all over the planet. The PLUR (Peace, Love, Unity, Respect) movement comes with its own fashion, from comfortable to the most sophisticated outfit, this is what we saw this weekend in the Nevada desert.

EDC Las Vegas is definitely an event where most ravers like to bring their rave fashion game. Indeed, the Electric Daisy Carnival is Insomniac biggest festival and the world second biggest festival behind the European Tomorrowland taking place in Boom, Belgium every summer. Therefore, ravers don’t go only to see amazing DJs but to show the uniqueness of their personalities throughout long though sophisticated outfits. Exactly, rave attire is all about self expression and creativity, and in this world of acceptance and freedom.

Headliners aren’t afraid to show their wild side. Often, core ravers usually go all out, often with hand-crafted costumes revisiting festival classics like tie dye tops, booty shorts, neon colored clothing, psychedelic prints, or even reflective fabrics. Usually, guys go for the classic tank + short look. Often, the tank top will be dropped after security is passed and most guys rather stay shirtless to show their muscle and feel more comfortable in the crowd.

Also, accessorizing is of course also important. Not only for fashion but also for comfort. With temperature in the hundreds, most headliners come with a CamelPak usually inspired from the rave culture fashion. Indeed, you will see some with reflective neon fabrics to others with marijuana leave patterns. Same with bandanas, extremely important to keep you from breathing that desert dirt. Also, some girls like to accessorize with flowers, for example with a flower crown in their hair. It is the Electric Daisy Carnival after all. Then, the shades, even though the event takes place at night, you still need you shade to face all those light. Some even go extra and bring pairs of kaleidoscope shades that makes all the lights trippy to your vision.

More and more festival goers customize accessories and outfits with LED lights, which makes your outfit the most exciting one from the rave. The very respectful PLUR culture creates engagement between headliners. If your outfit is great, be sure that you will be told about it, and probably exchange Kandi, those plastic perl bracelet handmade by the ravers and exchanged as a sign of friendship.

Here are some of the most exciting outfit we saw this weekend. What do you think? Would you go to EDC Orlando coming November 10th and 11th? #JOMSY
