Lindy Hemming, the costume designer behind Wonder Woman
Wonder Woman is already a hit in the box office and a masterpiece. Lindy Hemming is the costume designer who made the famous comic character to life, with costumes that will probably stay in legends.
The awarded Welsh designer is the one who came with memorable costumes for a wide variety of blockbusters including Lara Croft: Tomb Raider. She also created the costumes for Four Weddings and a Funeral. However, it’s not her first contribution to a comic book movie adaptation. She already worked on Batman Begins, The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises.
In an interview to flickeringmyth.com, she explains that the challenge is harder when working on a comedy like Four Weddings and a Funeral. She says her role is to give the audience the details they need to understand the storyline and the characteristics of the characters with depth, from another perspective.
In Wonder Woman, costumes literally are a celebration of female empowerment. However, we noticed that Diana Prince doesn’t wear the American flag as a part of her outfit. The Amazon warrior from the island of Themiscyra, formed out of clay by the Greek god Zeus, drops the post WWII Americana themed costume for something more sober. Because of the dark political environment the country is currently going through, it seems that patriotism is not in our mind.
Here are a few pictures of the evolution of Wonder Woman’s outfit in pop culture:
